Eric Ficke, CPA
Unlike many of his peers, Eric’s career path has not always involved numbers, unless it pertained to things like pressure, torque and, of course, speed. The reason? He spent 13 years working at an automobile dealership as a master technician with seven of those years as a team leader.
Over the years, the Edgewood native has found many commonalities in his former career that helped him in his new one as a certified public accountant (CPA) for Rudler, PSC.
“Efficiency is key as a mechanic. If you're not efficient, you can't survive. You're never going to make it,” he says. “To bring that mindset of trying to find the most efficient path to the task that you're working on translates no matter what but especially in a fast-paced environment like accounting. If you’re moving out of a blue-collar career to come into the white-collar world and bring that mentality with you, that’s a benefit. Your work ethic doesn't change.”
Eric originally attended Gateway Technical and Community College where he earned his diplomas in Automotive Technology in 2003 and later went on to earn his Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in Automotive Technology in 2017. His interest in business – and desire to change careers – eventually led him to Northern Kentucky University (NKU). He would go on to graduate from NKU magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in 2020 before earning his CPA certification in the winter of 2022.
With his new career less taxing on him physically, Eric seeks to continue to establish himself with clients and as an integral part of the Rudler, PSC team. That’s not to suggest he doesn’t still enjoy his passion for cars away from work, along with fishing and video games, when he has the time.
Eric currently lives in Villa Hills with his wife Stephanie, their three children (including a newborn daughter) and two pets. The “family-oriented” environment at Rudler has made his new career a perfect fit. He credits Rudler for providing a work/life balance in a healthy environment where teammates want to see each other succeed and advance.
