Our Professional Team

Evan Kandra, CPA

Like many of his peers, Evan Kandra grew up loving football. First as a team member of Greater Cincinnati's perennial powerhouse, the Elder High School Panthers, and later as part of the Thomas More University Saints. Now, the former offensive lineman tackles a new line of challenges as a Senior Accountant at Rudler, PSC. So, how does his football experience compare and relate to his work today as a CPA?

As Evan explains, both activities require a lot of skill to perform and attention to detail to make sure the job is done on time without fumbling away the opportunity.

“With football and accounting, there are similarities with time management and multitasking. In football, there’s working out, attending practice and (balancing that) with other extracurricular activities and schoolwork. With public accounting, you work on something new almost every day, whatever the client needs you work as a team to get there,” he says. “In football, if somebody doesn't do their assignment the play is going to fail. If somebody doesn't do their assignment working on a return then the client’s not going to have a good product and be unhappy. It’s a good thing we have a stellar team here at Rudler!”

After graduating from Thomas More with his B.A. in Accountancy, Kandra would join Rudler, PSC full-time in June 2019. His first exposure to the firm was two years prior when he started as a co-op. The experience only helped solidify his interest in accounting, a notion he credits his junior varsity basketball coach for first piquing. “He did a phenomenal job teaching it and I discovered ‘I’m actually good at this,’” Kandra recalls. “I enjoyed doing it and it was then that I knew what I wanted to major in at college. I loved all my classes and professors in the accounting department.”

He currently lives in Delhi Twp. with his wife Annie and their retired racing greyhound Pinky. Evan still enjoys football, watching the NFL and playing video games (outside of tax season, of course). He also enjoys the chance to mentor his younger brothers, Luke and Collin, who are playing football at the University of Cincinnati and Mount Saint Joseph University, respectively. His philanthropic nature extends to the time he spends volunteering with St. Dominic Parish and his high school alma mater’s Dad’s Club, which helps Elder students in various capacities.

If he can deliver a similar level of championship service to help clients achieve their goals alongside his Rudler, PSC teammates, he’ll be happy.

“We're here to help them with any service they might need from an accounting standpoint and even some non-accounting items. That’s why we’re here and like to be looked at as a trusted adviser,” he says.
