IRS Notice Awareness and Guidance

The IRS has recently increased the volume of notice letters being issued to taxpayers. While some notices may be generated in error, others may be legitimate and require timely action.

If you receive any notice or correspondence from the IRS, please forward a copy to your Rudler Tax Advisor. Our team can review the notice, help determine whether a response is required, and advise you on the appropriate next steps. If needed, we can also assist in preparing and submitting a response to the IRS on your behalf.

Some IRS notices may request that you verify your identity or confirm information related to your tax return. In many cases, the IRS requires taxpayers to complete this verification process directly via the IRS account called ID.me. Because the IRS Online Account can also help facilitate communication and streamline the resolution of IRS matters, we encourage you to establish an account if you have not already done so. To learn more about IRS Online Accounts or to sign in and create an account, please visit: https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals

If you receive an identity verification notice, please follow the instructions provided by the IRS. If you would like guidance before completing the verification process, contact your Rudler Tax Advisor and we will be happy to assist.

Please also be aware that the IRS continues to experience significant processing delays for matters submitted by mail. Even when issues are addressed electronically or through direct communication with the IRS, resolution may take several months. For this reason, it is important to address notices promptly and retain copies of all correspondence and supporting documentation.

As a general reminder, exercise caution when reviewing any communication that appears to be from the IRS. If you are uncertain whether a notice, letter, email, or request is legitimate, we recommend visiting https://www.irs.gov/ directly or contacting your Rudler Tax Advisor before taking action.

As always, please contact your Rudler, PSC advisor with any questions or concerns. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
